- Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was a prequel to Episode IV: A New Hope. But as dedicated fans know, the prequel is itself getting a prequel, with a Disney+ series focusing on Cassian Andor currently in the works.
The problem is, we haven’t heard much about it. Well, until now, that is. In an interview with ET promoting his Netflix series Narcos: Mexico, Andor himself, Diego Luna commented on the progress of the Rogue One prequel series.
”Yes, we are doing it. We are doing it this year,” he said, “It’s happening, and I’m getting ready for it.”
The 40-year-old actor first portrayed Cassian Andor in 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. It’s been four years since then so perhaps it’s no spoiler to say that Andor dies in the end, alongside every main character introduced in said movie. The series, obviously, will take place during his years before that, serving in the Rebellion.
While Luna admits he knows “very little,” he has read some scripts and “can’t wait” to get back into the boots of Cassian Andor once again.
It is a different approach because of the beauty, and it’s how things happen. It’s not just what happens. It’s not the typical way of approaching a story. It’s about how things happen, which in fact, is the same that happened in Rogue One. You know the ending, but you don’t know how it happened, and we have that challenge in front of us again, which is exciting.
Meanwhile, the much-anticipated Obi-Wan series is set to start filming in January 2021. This six-episode one-season series will explore the Jedi Master’s life between the events of Episode III and IV of the main movie series.
