The force is strong with this one but did anyone predict it to be quite so strong? Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been breaking numerous records since its December release and the movie is now a member of the prestigious one billion dollar club.
The latest film in the galactic saga has achieved this milestone in a mere 12 days. The previous record was held by the 2015 summer movie Jurassic World which reached the 1 billion dollar mark in 13 days. It should be noted however that unlike Jurassic World, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has not yet debuted in the Chinese market. The Chinese market is the second biggest audience in the world and when the film releases there in January, we can expect the worldwide grossing figure to drastically increase.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens now has a claim on the majority of the box office records. Biggest overall pre-sales, biggest worldwide IMAX opening and biggest worldwide opening weekend are just a few of the accolades the film has acquired.
The most illustrious record that The Force Awakens will be attempting to capture however will be the overall worldwide sales which are currently held by Avatar with an unfathomable 2.7 Billion Dollars.
The movie, which takes place 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi, sees the familiar faces of Luke, Leia and Han return. The film also introduces us to a new cast with the likes of Rey, Finn and Kylo Ren taking the limelight, this time, round. The film has received critical praise scoring 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.
