There is no doubt that Star Wars has a tremendous digital presence. Leaping off of movies and comic books, fans can consume content on their website, apps, and social media channels, as well. With multiple posts on a daily basis, it’s no wonder that the franchise won five Webby Awards.
The Webby Awards have been running for over 24 years, and are focused on high-quality online content. There are two categories of Webby Awards. The first is the traditional award voted on by a panel of 2,000 judges from the Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. The second is the People’s Voice, voted on by the public.
The Star Wars App won both the Webby Award and the People’s Voice Award in the category of excellence in Apps, Mobile, and Voice: Entertainment. In this category, it was up against fellow nominees Marvel Unlimited, the NFL Mobile App, Apollo’s Moon Shot AR, and Reelgood – Streaming Guide.
The social media channels also took home both the Webby Award and the People’s Voice Award in Social: Television and Film. In this category, it was up against fellow nominees Game of Thrones’ Instagram, Jojo Rabbit’s Close Friends, RuPaul’s Drag Race, and Warner Media – Chasing the Cure.
And The Star Wars Show won the People’s Voice Award in Video: Series. In this category, it was up against fellow nominees Illegal Civ x Doritos, Renewable, and Vertical Home.
StarWars.com was also nominated for the Best Website: Entertainment. But it was beaten by Webby Winner YouTube Rewind and People’s Voice Winner Rotten Tomatoes. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker World Premiere Live Stream was nominated for Video: Live Experiences. It lost to Parade Reimagined, which picked up both the Webby Award and the People’s Voice Award.
With Star Wars changing and evolving as the year’s progress, this is a good sign of what fans can look to see more of in the future.
