It’s not been long since Stardew Valley on PC got updated to version 1.5. It was one of the biggest content updates the game had ever seen, with new areas to explore and farm, and crucially, a split-screen mode was added for people looking to play together on one screen. The game was a fantastic gem of its own accord, and the updates over the years have only strengthened that fact.

The 1.5 update was a great one, and while PC players have been enjoying what’s been added since Monday, console players have had to wait. Now though, it seems like there is something on the horizon for console players if a recent tweet by Eric Barone, the creator of Stardew Valley, is anything to go by.

The 1.5 update will be coming to consoles early next year. It's possible it could be ready by the end of January but I can't guarantee that yet. Mobile has no release estimate yet.

Stardew Valley version 1.5 introduced a new island to explore called Ginger Island, complete with a new selection of NPCs, items, and a new volcano dungeon similar to the mines in the vanilla game that changes every time you visit. It also introduced a new beach farm starting location, a feature added in a previous update, for when you create a character. A vast amount of quality of life improvements were also made to the game, one of which is a new ostrich mount that can carry you around the farm, while another is the ability to paint your farmhouse buildings in different colors.

New crops and trees have also been introduced to add to the already mind-boggling amount of things you can do in this amazing game. The biggest addition, obviously, is split-screen co-op. The game already had a multiplayer component, but for console players especially, being able to play with a friend or significant other will be a godsend.

Eric Barone has previously said that he would be working on two new projects after releasing Stardew Valley. We don’t know what exactly the future holds for the Stardew Valley dev, but we’ll update you when we know more. Have you tried the new update out on PC? Excited about the console release? When I'm not researching games to potentially add to an ever-growing backlog of games I've never finished, I'm scouting the next wonderkid on Football Manager, or adding my 180th hour to my Persona 5 completionist run. Likes games, and likes talking about them. Surprise, right?
