Fishing in Stardew Valley is a trial in itself. It takes time to understand and work with the controls. And just like in real life, it takes time for a fish to nibble. What better way to speed up the whole thing with some bait? However, just like fishing, putting bait on the fishing rod can just as confusing. As such, in this guide, we explain how to do it!

How to Attach Bait to a Rod

Bait

The first step to attaching bait to the fishing rod is to first acquire the bait. Thankfully, there are multiple ways to get it.  You can either buy it at the Fish shop for 5G a piece, craft it yourself, or grow it in a worm pit.  The next step is to get a better fishing rod than the Bamboo rod at the beginning.

The beginning rod won’t allow you to attach bait to it, but the later rods will. However, the fiberglass rod will become available at level two of the fishing skill. But after that, the next step is to finally attach the bait.

Depending on whether or not you are playing on PC, you should go to your inventory and left-click. Left-click selects the whole stack of bait where right-click selects a singular bait. And then you need only right-click on the fishing rod. If you had selected the left-click, the entire stack would be applied to the fishing rod.

This would allow you to go through as much bait as you need without reapplying every time. On the Xbox and PlayStation controller, players should press A, or X on PlayStation, to select the stack and then press X, or Square on PlayStation, to attach it to the rod.

That’s all there is to know about bait in Stardew Valley. Hopefully, fishing becomes a less complicated affair now that you can use it effectively. Let us know in the comments how you’re fishing experiences go.
