This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

After spending years in-game in Pelican Town in Stardew Valley, the perfect change of scenery for any farmer would be the tropical isle of Ginger Island. This zone is more than a simple exterior map region like The Desert; Ginger Island offers tons of content to explore and discover. Whether you’re doing business with Mr. Qi, investigating the isle’s many secrets, or forging Infinity equipment in the Volcano Dungeon, there’s plenty to keep you occupied for hours on end. However, before accessing Ginger Island, you will need to help Willy repair his broken boat.

Unlocking Ginger Island in Stardew Valley requires several conditions to be met, starting with the complete restoration of the Community Center. Once you’ve completed all the center’s Bundles, Willy will send a letter to your mailbox, saying he wants to show you something in the “back room of his shop.”

Despite Willy’s invitation, you can’t just barge in from the get-go, as you’ll need to wait until 9:00AM until his shop usually opens. Once inside, interact with the gray metal door behind his shop’s counter to discover his worn-down boat, the one you’ll need to reach Ginger Island in Stardew Valley. To repair it to its former glory, you’ll need the following materials:

MaterialsSource
Hardwood ×200Large Stumps in the Secret Woods, barrels and boxes in the Mines, or a Woodskip Fish Pond (population of 6 required)
Iridium Bars ×5Smelted from Iridium Ore ×25, which can be farmed from nodes in the Skull Cavern, a Super Cucumber Fish Pond (population of 9 required), or the Statue Of Perfection (obtainable only during your 3rd year in-game)
Battery Packs ×5Charged Lightning Rods (RNG-based thunderstorms) or Solar Panels (7 days of sunny required)

After gathering the required resources and delivering them to the boat’s three “nodes,” you’ll need to sleep in one more day. The reason is that Robin and Willy will pull an all-nighter to use the supplies you collected to repair the boat. From the next day forward, you can access Willy’s shop from 8:00AM, even if he’s not around. Via our own gameplay, we’ve confirmed that you can still barge in and enter the back room on Saturdays.

Regardless of where Willy is when you examine the repaired boat for the first time, he’ll spawn in for a quick cutscene, taking you to Ginger Island. From then on, you can spend 1,000G to go to the isle whenever you please.

To summarize, here’s how you access Ginger Island in Stardew Valley:

  1. Complete all Community Center Bundles (or side with JojaMart)
  2. Repair Willy’s boat using Hardwood ×200, Iridium Bars ×5, and Battery Packs ×5.
  3. Visit the back room of his shop the following day to travel to the island.
