For years, Steam has been the home of PC gaming. The digital storefront has become the go-to place where millions log in daily to play, chat, or even discover something new. And now, according to data from SteamDB, Valve’s platform just hit another massive milestone. The most popular PC and gaming platform Steam has once again broken its own record, reaching an all-time peak of 41,666,455 concurrent users on October 13.
The growth has been pretty steady, too. Its userbase is up by roughly three million from last year, and almost double what it was five years ago. Previously, the storefront recorded a peak of 41.2 million active players in March earlier this year.
That said, Steam’s latest achievement still lags behind its biggest rival today: Roblox. The multi-platform gaming giant reached 47.4 million concurrent users in August 2025, surpassing Steam’s all-time highs. These massive numbers of active players highlight just how huge — and profitable — gaming ecosystems have become.

Valve’s own staples like Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2 remain the backbone of its playerbase. Old favorites like PUBG: Battlegrounds and Rust continue to rake in huge daily numbers as well. However, this month’s record was also boosted by Battlefield 6, which peaked at 747,440 players during launch weekend and climbed into Steam’s top three games.
Notably, smaller and less expensive indie hits are contributing to the numbers. Games like Banana and Bongo Cat quietly pushed Steam’s totals even higher as these idle games each draw over 100,000 players daily.
Still, these comparisons raise one question — can Steam keep up with Roblox‘s growth? Or vice-versa: can Roblox keep up its momentum and outpace everyone else in the industry? Sure, one dominates hardcore PC gaming, while the other serves limitless community-made worlds. Both are thriving now, but as audiences grow and evolve, the race for the world’s biggest gaming hub is far from over.
