Is surviving the zombie apocalypse on a tropical island romantic? Steam certainly seems to think so, as it’s made Dead Island: Riptide completely free for one day only. First released in 2013, Deep Silver released a remastered, definitive edition of the second entry in their Dead Island series in 2016. Like the first Dead Island, Riptide players are tasked with battling zombies in visceral melee combat with up to 4 of their friends, only now the apocalypse has moved to the tropics. In a rare move, Steam has made the definitive edition of Dead Island: Riptide completely free until tomorrow morning.
Give Your Valentine The Gift of Dead Island: Riptide For Free on Steam
Conceived back in 2011, Dead Island: Riptide was initially an expansion of the first Dead Island game, which was released that same year. Riptide would eventually stand on its own as a spinoff, and it was released in 2013 for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. Three years later, in 2016, Deep Silver would remaster the game for release on Xbox One, PS4, and a PC re-release. Now, Steam has made Dead Island: Riptide – Definitive Edition completely free until 9am ET on February 15th.
Similar to the first game, Dead Island: Riptide centers around four playable “survivors”: rapper Sam B., spy Xian Mei, former football star Logan Carter, and ex-cop Puma Jackson. The plot of Riptide picks up directly after the end of Dead Island, and adds a new survivor with ADF Colonel Sam Hardy. The game takes place on the tropical island of Palanai, where players must use Dead Island’s famously gory melee mechanics to battle hordes of zombies and keep VIP Frank Serpo and his company from weaponizing the Kuru virus strain that began the outbreak in the first place. The ending of the game leaves room for a sequel, perfectly setting up Dead Island 2 (2023).
Unlike some of its competitors, it’s pretty rare to see Steam give away a game like Dead Island: Riptide. Discounts are fairly common, but PC gamers can get Riptide completely free for just one day. If you’re interested, don’t forget to snag your copy before the sale ends tomorrow morning and the game returns to its normal listing price.
