Steph Curry is known as one of the greatest three-point shooters in basketball history. However, despite the Golden State Warriors starting the season with a record of 9-2, it is clear Curry is missing his Splash Brother. Klay Thompson spent his entire NBA career beside Curry until just last offseason. Despite winning four NBA championships together, Klay decided it was time to move on as he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks as part of a sign-and-trade deal.
According to Mercury News, Tuesday night was Klay Thompson’s first time playing against his former team, as the Warriors and the Mavericks battled it out inside Chase Center. Although the contest was a “super emotional” battle, Steph Curry stepped into the spotlight to spoil Klay’s revenge game. Curry finished the game with 37 big points, as well as nine assists, and six rebounds. Curry also hit a colossal dagger three that iced the game. Despite Thompson doing all he could, his 22 points just weren’t enough as the Mavs fell to the Warriors with a final score of 120-117.
Although the night was filled with bittersweet vibes, the Golden State Warriors still honored Thompson with a heartwarming tribute video. Fans also got a free captain’s hat that resembled the one Klay wore during one of the team’s championship parades. Both teams came to play, and Warriors fans everywhere were all saying, “Thank you, Klay.”

Fans then took to social media to talk about the big game.
“Super emotional moment. Still tough to see him on another team, but respect the love,” one said.
“Thank you, Klay,” wrote another.
Finally, another said, “I’m not a Warriors fan at all, and I still have chills from that.”
It seems as though Klay is getting love from almost every fanbase in the NBA for his passionate performance. After the game, Steph Curry had to give his former teammate his flowers. The NBA star stated that he “couldn’t have imagined a better night.” He continued by giving Klay Thompson a shoutout for everything he had done for their organization. Curry seems to believe that they wouldn’t have hung any banners without his help.
Steph Curry and Klay Thompson had a fantastic relationship on and off the court. The iconic duo, nicknamed the Splash Brothers, tore through the league together. The 2016 Warriors, famously led by the duo, even broke an NBA record for most wins by a team in the regular season.
That team went 73-9 despite blowing a three-to-one lead in the NBA Finals to the LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers. However, through ups and downs, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson have remained great friends and are surely looking forward to playing against one another again soon.
