Steve Carell recently looked back on his very emotional exit from NBC’s hit series “The Office,” while making an appearance on the Office Ladies Podcast on Wednesday.
Steve Carell has enjoyed a successful acting career spanning several decades. During this time, the 60-year-old featured in several movie and television productions — receiving a plethora of accolades.
One of his most iconic roles of all time saw him portray Michael Scott between 2005 and 2011. He also returned in 2013 to reprise his role during the Office series finale.
Apart from his starring role in the series, Carell also occasionally worked as a producer, writer, and director on the show. In 2006, the “Evan Almighty” star received a Golden Globe Award and Television Critics Association Award for his role in “The Office.”
Despite his amazing run on “The Office,” Carell’s time on the show was unexpectedly cut short when he left in 2011. At the time, it was said he quit the show to focus on his family. However, in 2020 author Andy Greene revealed Carell’s unceremonious exit was down to NBC execs dragging their feet over contract renewals.

Steve Carell On The Office Series
Steve Carell‘s exit from “The Office” after seven seasons was a huge blow to fans and even left most of his co-stars in tears. Despite the constant media inquiry into the circumstances that led to him leaving the series, Carell has remained mum over the years.
However, the actor recently reflected on his office series finale during an appearance on The Office Ladies Podcast with Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey.
While talking to the ladies — who were also his co-stars on the series, Carell claimed it was hard walking away from the series after seven years but he felt the “timing was right ”
Carell also told his former co-stars how filming the send-off episode was a great experience not just for him but all his co-stars. In his words:
“And the way those last two episodes were structured, it felt very rich to me to simultaneously be saying goodbye as Michael and us as friends in this moment of work together. But, yeah, it was a lot, it was a very emotional thing.”
Fischer and Kinsey both agreed with Carell’s take about the send-off episodes being emotionally charged. Kinsey goes further to add how the whole crew switched from joyous laughter to tearing up the next moment.
Although Carell left in 2011, he made a surprise comeback two years later — reprising his role in “The Office” series finale. The May 2013 episode titled “Finale,” saw Micheal Scott appear as the best man at Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson) and Angela’s wedding.
