The Avengers roster is about to gain one omega-level member when Storm joins the team. However, the Marvel Universe must survive the current Fall of X and Blood Hunt events before new adventures can begin. The Fall of X is currently bringing the Krakoan Age of mutants to an explosive end. This will push the X-Men into the From the Ashes era. Meanwhile, the Blood Hunt event is plaguing all of Marvel’s heroes as an endless night brings hordes of vampires out for blood. Once the dust and blood clears, it looks like Storm will team up with the Avengers for some new adventures.

A Big Year For Storm

Storm is in for quite a year, whether she wants it or not. This summer, the X-Men will undergo a huge relaunch that will usher in a new era. This new era, dubbed From the Ashes, is led by three flagship titles. These new series will split the X-Men into several teams, each dealing with new issues in this new era. Alongside the main X-titles like X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, and Exceptional X-Men, the new era will give many characters their own solo series. One mutant getting a stand-alone series is Storm. Currently, there is no news about this series or what it will entail.

Alongside the solo series, Storm will be doing double duty as she joins the Avengers roster. Earlier this week, Marvel teased that Avengers #17 would bring a new member to the team. Now, we know that the special member is the Mistress of Thunder herself. Artist Valerio Schiti is also joining the ongoing series to help usher Storm in this new role. The recent end of Krakoa forced the Avengers to realize that the team needs a mutant voice. Of course, the Avengers will not settle for anything less than the most prominent and beloved mutant on the planet.

Bringing In A Heavy Hitter

Marvel’s press release for Avengers #17 states that Storm has assembled with the Avengers before, but never like this. Not only do the Avengers need her omega-level powers for the battles ahead, but they also need her expertise and leadership. Especially as writer Jed MacKay brings his plots involving Kang, the Twilight Court, and more to a head. It never hurts to have an expert tactician on the team, especially one who can bring a blizzard down on their foes.

Avengers #17 is on sale 08/07.
