When it comes to thrifting, you never know what you’re going to get. Part of the fun is to head inside stores like Goodwill and see if there are any treasures to be found. For one woman in Texas, that is exactly what happened. It seemingly started out as a regular thrifting trip, but as soon as she went back to her car with her finds, it quickly turned into something much more.
A woman in Texas named Katrina hit the jackpot, literally, when she spotted a vintage piggy bank while hunting at a thrift store. The item itself was straight out of the 1970s, complete with a big smiling face, curly tail, and green, white, and orange floral patterns. However, it was what was inside that left her gasping.
“I thrifted this piggy bank for $10.99 and listen,” she tells the camera in the video as she shakes the item back and forth. It’s clear that there is something inside the bank, but what could it be? “It kinda sounds like plastic or toys,” she guessed before pulling out the plug from the bottom and making the big discovery.

Once open, Katrina finds plastic bags inside. She begins to pull them out before realizing that they are all tied together. “I do know this piggy bank is worth a lot of money,” she explains while she pulls the bags out. Once they have been removed, she’s shocked to see that there are multiple bundles of cash rolled up and bound by elastic hair ties.
“No frickin’ way!” she says after spotting the money. “Do you see that? I’m shaking right now,” she says excitedly. Later she comes back and reveals that she ended up finding more than $2,000 inside the bank.
“I just thrifted a piggy bank for $10.99 and found $2,028 cash! [expletive] is this a prank or something?!?” she captioned the video. She also revealed that she decided to tell the store about the money. When asked why, she replied, “I felt guilty.”
Of course, the internet was stunned right along with Katrina. “Honestly it could’ve been an item donated from an estate sale. They saw the bags inside and didn’t bother to deal with it. So you’ve been blessed by whoever once owed it. Don’t return nothing to the thrift store. Use it for you or use it partially on a pay it forward to someone who actually needs it,” one person stated.
Eventually, Katrina revealed that she decided to keep the money she found at the Texas thrift store. Meanwhile, she’s likely inspired others to double-check their thrift store finds in hopes of getting just as lucky.
