Sydney Sweeney tends not to make headlines for making a fashion faux-pas, but the Instagram crowd seeing her 2023 Cannes Film Festival look certainly seemed convinced she had.
In May of last year, The White Lotus star put on a show-stopping display as she joined the celebrities swarming onto the French resort town, with photos showing her stepping out in a slinky satin dress with a neckline low enough to flash her $775 Miu Miu bra. Outfitted head to toe in the designer she fronts, Sydney sizzled as she flaunted her curves, but fans seeing the photos weren’t too impressed. In fact, many deemed the Hollywood star cheap, with a popular remark calling her look “not classy.”

Opting for a form-fitting, powder blue number in floor-length satins, Sydney oozed glam as she showed off her fit figure and signature curves in her plunging look.
Layering her gown over a darker blue bra as she rocked the visible underwear trend, Sydney kept funky in a white pair of platform sandals, ones shouting out her beachy location and offsetting the otherwise all-blue look. Wearing her blonde locks down and in soft layers, the 26-year-old added plenty of blush to her makeup, completing her glam with diamond hoop earrings. She was photographed with fiance Jonathan Davino.
The images, posted by Just Jared, came captioned: “Sydney Sweeney’s engagement ring was back on during an appearance in Cannes with fiance Jonathan Davino on Sunday night. She also wore a casual outfit while leaving her hotel on Monday.”
Quickly gaining likes with over 370 fans agreeing was a comment slamming the outfit for being too skimpy. “What is wrong with these stars feeling the need to dress half-naked!! Keep Hollywood classy, preserve your skimpy outfits for your partner in a private setting!” the user wrote.
Also giving Sydney’s look the thumbs-down was a fan who claimed that Sydney’s stylist is “obsessed” with “showing off” her curves as they asked: “Can she have a single conservative and classy look for once?” A further user shading the outfit said that it wasn’t giving a “high fashion” feel “at all.” Fortunately, other users left praise.
Sydney may have the odd look criticized, but she proved a hit with her latest one. Stunning in Miu Miu at the 2024 Met Gala, the actress debuted a short black bob, even finding herself likened to singer Billie Eilish.
