Long before anyone would have likened Sydney Sweeney to the fictional Madame Web, the actress became a real-life spiderwoman marked by a huntsman spider bite. The upcoming drama, set for a December 22, 2023 release date stars Sydney as Bea, Glenn Powell’s onscreen romantic interest. The anticipation for the film has seen a dramatic boost recently, in the wake of the actress’ revelation of her on-set experience with a huntsman spider, which she thought would kill her. Thankfully, the bite from the trained spider wasn’t fatal after all, but it left a lasting label attached to her name.
Sydney Sweeney Named Spiderwoman Following Huntsman Spider Bite
Appearing on The Tonight Show on Wednesday night, Sydney Sweeney recalled the horrifying huntsman spider bite that earned her the Spiderwoman title months back. The incident took place in Australia while filming Anyone But You on a bushy set. Per the star, the scene required her to act like a huntsman spider bit her arm. Of course, filming the scene with a real-life huntsman spider, the production team reassured her the crawling creature was a trained spider and would not harm her for real.
However, things took a nose dive when the huntsman spider decided to reenact the script with an actual bite on Sydney Sweeny’s arm. Terrified, the star screamed her lungs out but the crew paid her no heed, believing she had some great acting going on. Thankfully, Glenn realized something was amiss right on time and came to the rescue.
Sydney Rehashes Soulful Spiderwoman Moment
Interestingly, Sydney graced The Tonight Show with footage of the terrifying moment captured on camera for the movie scene. The clip showed the moment the spider took a nibble of her skin, followed by her soul-wrenching scream. The others only intervened after Sydney Sweeney convinced them the huntsman spider bit her for real.
She immediately received medical aid, with doctors on set certifying she faced no harm from the bite. Notably, while painful, the bite from a huntsman spider was not lethal. Hence, a bite from it posed no immediate danger to a human. In Sydney Sweeney’s case, she did get a clearer picture of the horrifying encounter months later, when she snagged the titular role of Madame Web in Marvel’s upcoming film.
Interestingly, her casting as the mutant had no connection with her experience on the Australian set. In fact, the certified medical report from the medics on set had a slight play on her predicament by tagging Sydney Sweeney as the real-life “Spiderwoman.” As fate would have it, she would get a chance to embrace the title wholly come 2024.
