All’s Fair in Child’s Play
Relief to all those who were concerned about Brad Dourif not being a part of the most recent Chucky movie, which shares the same name as the original, 1988, version; Child’s Play. Although I do believe that the 2019 Child’s Play tried to do a more modern take on the killer doll, it fell short of expectations.
The synopsis for the Chucky TV series should be a relief to those hoping that it’s not a reset of the franchise:
After a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies and allies from Chucky’s past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.”
Returning characters perhaps? It could open the doors for a lot of interesting cameos from the franchise.
The Chucky franchise has been going for about 33 years now with eight movies being released during that span. It takes place in Chicago, which is where I grew up, so I am very familiar with the red-headed doll, very excited to see what is in store for us when the new pilot premieres on Syfy and USA on October 12. The set photos show a Chucky that looks similar to the original look. More doll than a murderer.
