Sylvester Stallone, star of the original Demolition Man, has announced that a sequel is being made.
While answering questions on Instagram, Stallone was asked about a potential sequel to 1993’s Demolition Man. “I think there is,” Stallone answered.
“We’re working on it right now with Warner Bros, and it’s looking fantastic. So, that should come out, that’s going to happen.”
Of course, Stallone didn’t offer any details. We have no idea when the movie will be released or who else will act in it. Stallone’s comment that the film is “looking fantastic,” though, suggests that the project is at least at some significant stage in the process. It doesn’t sound like a rumor of a possible project, but rather one that will likely see the light of day.
Sadly, with the coronavirus, the film industry is suffering, and movies simply cannot be shot. If this will affect Demolition Man 2’s release date isn’t known considering we don’t know what stage the project is in.
The original Demolition Man was released in 1993 and instantly became a cult classic. Sylvester Stallone played Sergeant John Spartan, a police officer of the Los Angeles Police department. After being frozen in 1996, Spartan is revived in 2032 to catch Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes), who has also awoken but escaped. There’s lots of action, of course. After all, this is a Sylvester Stallone movie!
Chances of a sequel were dwindling as the years passed since its theatrical release. That’s what made Stallone’s statement so shocking. Not only was the first anyone had heard of Demolition Man 2, but the announcement also came straight from Stallone himself as he answered fan questions on Instagram.
