How do you transport a table down an escalator? I can’t speak from experience, but what I do know, is that you don’t do it like this. A hilarious and somewhat farcical video is going viral on Reddit of some men trying and miserably failing to transport tables down an escalator. When the first table gets stuck, all chaos breaks out.
Some incidents seem so bungled that you wouldn’t believe them if they weren’t captured on video. This farcical attempt to transport tables down an escalator is one such example. Seemingly CCTV footage, the clip begins with a suited man facing backwards down an escalator. Between him and a uniformed man, he’s supporting a table, held sideways.
The attempt seems to be going smoothly enough at first. The trouble starts, however, when they reach the bottom of the escalator. The table legs jam against the sides, which forces the uniformed man between the table legs. The suited man’s feeble efforts to dislodge the table are fruitless. All the while, the escalator just keeps on running, indifferent to the humans’ struggles.
However, the most amusing part of the clip comes when more uniformed men carrying a second table come into view, descending the escalator. With the table blockage at the end, the men push the second table on to the adjacent escalator. The men, on the other hand, hilariously try to run back up the escalator to escape their fate. To quote Ron Burgundy: “Boy, the escalated quickly.”
The suited man looks on helplessly, clearly at a complete loss as to what to do. Reddit was quick to pick up on his inaction, with one commenter branding the man “completely worthless.” Other Redditors noticed that he seems to completely miss the emergency stop button at the bottom of the escalator.
Now, I’m no haulage expert, by any means, but it does seem a very strange way to transport tables. If you absolutely have to transport them down an escalator, some thought should go into the procedure. As one commenter pointed out, the escalator rails are essentially conveyor belts, so they could have just rested the table top on the rails. I, for one, am glad they didn’t. We wouldn’t have got this very amusing video clip if they’d used their heads. Let’s just be grateful the situation didn’t escalate further.
