The people that ICE is detaining are neighbors, family, and friends. Apparently, they would even go as far as to detain your own grandfather. In a rage-inducing video, an elderly man was escorted from his home in Minnesota by ICE officials. But what makes this especially barbaric is the fact that it happened during extremely frigid temperatures. And to make matters worse? The man was dressed only in his underwear when it all went down.
A video shared by @bringmn on TikTok shows a cruel act by ICE officials in Minnesota on Sunday morning. In the video, an elderly Hmong man (of an East Asian ethnic group) was escorted from his home by ICE. Protestors stand around as it happens. They shout at the agents and honk their horns while snow covers the road and everything around them.
As the snow comes down, the ICE agents appear, holding up the Hmong man as he makes his way down his driveway. But in a tearjerking turn of events, you can see he’s merely dressed in his underwear, Crocs, and a blanket draped over his shoulders. It’s a sad sight and the reality of exactly what’s happening in our country at this time.
Bring Me the News, which shared the video, said a fundraiser was started for the man since then. The man was allegedly arrested in front of his 5-year-old grandson, making the situation even more traumatizing and devastating. On top of that, they said he was questioned for “an hour inside a federal vehicle.” Finally, ICE agents returned him to his home. The elderly man is allegedly a United States citizen with zero criminal record, and it appears this never should have happened in a million years.
As one commenter mentioned, “My sister lives in Minneapolis and it was -22 this morning.” Another commenter pointed out, “The Hmong aided the U.S. military in the Vietnam War. The reason they had to come here at all was because they faced death for that when we pulled out. There are so many layers of shame here.” He’s just an elderly man trying to live peacefully with his family in America and nobody can take that from him.
