Taylor Swift may happily be romancing Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce. However, before dating the NFL hunk, the singer had a 6-year relationship with actor Joe Alwyn. The couple were very private about their romance and fans knew next to nothing about their lives together. Recently, Swift opened up about some heartbreaking details surrounding her love life with Alwyn. During her Eras tour, the global icon admitted to feeling lonely during the relationship, leading her to write songs on her album Folklore.
Before singing her fan-favorite song, Betty, Swift revealed that she felt very lonely while writing the song. The singer told fans that the tune was written during the COVID-19 pandemic and that she felt like a ghost during the writing process, per Us Weekly.
Taylor Swift Admits To Being Lonely During Joe Alwyn Relationship
“[I was] imagining that, instead of being a lonely millennial woman covered in cat hair drinking my weight in white wine, I was a ghostly Victorian lady wandering through the woods with a candle in a candlestick holder,” she told the audience. “And I wrote only on parchment with a feathered quill. That was in my mind, what I thought I looked like, writing Folklore. … So that’s all that matters: the delusion.”
Taylor Swift didn’t mention Joe Alwyn by name. However, she did spend lockdown in London with her then-boyfriend. The actor even helped her write some of her songs. Following their 2023 split, Swift admitted that she regrets spending time locked away and is now ready to live life to the fullest, likely with Travis Kelce.
“Life is short. Have adventures. Me locking myself away in my house for a lot of years — I’ll never get that time back,” she told TIME. “I’m more trusting now than I was six years ago.”
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce seem to have a much more public and open relationship than that of the singer and Joe Alwyn. Meanwhile, the singer’s newest album is set to be released in a matter of weeks. Of course, fans can’t help but wonder what she’ll reveal about her recent split in her lyrics.
