Taylor Swift faces mounting pressure to offer her endorsement to a presidential candidate as the group, Swifties for Kamala grows bolder. During the last U.S. presidential elections, Taylor made no secret of her preference for the Democratic Party, endorsing President Joe Biden. Her input drove massive voter sentiments, playing a part in clinching the party the presidential seat.
However, her involvement stirred backlash from several quarters, with some top figures openly calling her out and encouraging her to stick to music and stay away from politics. Taylor Swift appears to be doing just that this election season, refraining from any presidential endorsement despite mounting pressure from the likes of Donald Trump, and millions of Swifties.
A fan group dubbed Swifties For Kamala has now taken it upon themselves to endorse a candidate on the singer’s behalf. Their movement has gained traction, commanding the participation of top figures like singer Carole King, and Senator Elizabeth Warren.
Taylor Swift’s failure to endorse the group, or make any political affiliations haven’t stopped them from pursuing their presidential endorsement. In fact, Swifties For Kamala organized a virtual rally on the evening of Tuesday, August 27, 2024, with over 34000 fans in attendance, the group claimed.
The movement racked up over $140,000 in donations, to support Kamala Harris and Tim Walz’s presidential aspirations, per TMZ. In addition to the tens of thousands of Taylor Swift’s fans attending the presidential endorsement rally, Senator Elizabeth Warren made a guest appearance, addressing the group through the platform.
Carole King belted the chorus of Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off during the rally, invariably scoring more points for Kamala with the Swifties-favorite hit. This isn’t the first time a party or group would attempt political movement under Taylor’s name. Donald Trump got an earful from Swifties after he created deep-fake photos showing Swifties clad in pro-Trump merch.
He followed up with a retweeted photo of the singer on X, telling fans to Vote for Trump while dressed as Uncle Sam. Additionally, the Republican presidential candidate has also taken subtle swipes at the star throughout his campaign, in an effort to lure her to his cause. Although less organized than the Swifties For Kamala rally, both campaigns seem to hammer on the same point— Pick a side, Taylor!
