Now, a year after its release, The 1975 frontman appeared to shade the record at Glastonbury Festival.
Fans Accuse Matty Healy of Shading Taylor Swift
This year’s Glastonbury Festival was held from Wednesday, June 25, to Sunday, June 29 in Pilton, Somerset, England. So many huge names took the stage throughout the week, from Charli xcx and Raye to Doechii and Gracie Abrams. However, the three main headlining acts were The 1975, Neil Young, and Olivia Rodrigo.
The pop rock band is no stranger to performing at Glastonbury Festival. They were part of the event in 2014 and 2016. Since they haven’t returned in nearly a decade, fans were so excited to see them on the lineup again. Unfortunately, some controversial comments made by lead singer Matty Healy overshadowed The 1975’s set.
In a viral clip on X, Healy could be seen joking around with the crowd during a pause in the band’s performance. “What this moment is making me realize is that I probably am the best. I’m probably the best songwriter of my generation,” he said. Considering that many people have given that title to Taylor Swift over the years, fans think Healy’s comment was meant to be a dig toward her. To make matters worse, Healy also appeared to have shaded Swift’s eleventh album, The Tortured Poets Department, which is rumored to be about him. “The best, what do we say… A poet, ladies and gentlemen, is what I am,” he added.
Of course, Taylor Swift fans are furious. They accused The 1975 star of trying to gain “clout” by mentioning his ex-girlfriend. “He’s such a loser,” one person said. “This is cringe,” another wrote. “How embarassing,” read a third comment. Due to his behavior, fans questioned how Healy was even able to win Swift’s heart in the first place. “What did she ever see in him?” one person asked.

Shortly afterward, Healy was asked about her in an interview, during which he hinted he would date her if given the chance. “I wouldn’t say no,” Healy said, per E! News.
Despite Healy shooting his shot with Swift, the pair remained friends. Swift then went on to date Joe Alwyn from the fall of 2016 to April 2023. Just weeks after ending things with the actor, Swift sparked dating rumors with Healy when he attended her Eras Tour that May. The two continued to fuel the gossip by hanging out multiple times in public. That June, People reported that Swift and Healy had broken up after about a month of dating. Shortly afterward, she linked up with Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, who she is still dating to this day.
Although Taylor Swift and Matty Healy weren’t together for long, it seems the British singer still thinks about his ex-girlfriend from time to time.
