Team Ninja has announced that they expect to release a new game before their previously announced title, Rise of the Ronin, which is set to release next year. The studio has created a niche in the souls-like genre and has generally gotten a positive response from its fanbase.
As of 2023, Team Ninja had two highly anticipated games scheduled for release. The first game, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, was released in March and was compared to Nioh, with its combat system featuring a Sekiro-like parry/deflection mechanic. While the game’s intricate RPG systems were simplified, it still received a warm reception from players. However, there is still excitement surrounding Rise of the Ronin, an open-world RPG that was announced last year during a State of Play event.
In a recent interview with Japanese gaming outlet Famitsu, Fumihiko Yasuda, the President of Team Ninja, stated that the studio intends to release a new game annually. Although Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has only been released recently, Yasuda hinted that another game in development is expected to be released in 2023 before Rise of The Ronin.
Team Ninja Will Release Another Game Before Rise of Ronin
While it is unlikely that the upcoming game Yasuda hinted at refers to significant DLC for Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, the game is set to receive new content in the coming months. There have been rumors that the studio may revisit the Ninja Gaiden or Dead or Alive franchises, but Yasuda dismissed these rumors as a misunderstanding. Team Ninja appears to be solely focused on their upcoming title, Rise of the Ronin, and the unannounced project nearing completion.
For players who are yet to face the challenges of Wo Long, a recent update has made the first boss easier by reducing its health and tweaking its AI. The game also added a tutorial to assist players with this challenging fight. The game’s release on PC was met with criticism due to bugs and optimization issues, which the studio is working to address. This issue is unfortunately common among game releases, with even major titles such as The Last of Us Part 1 being released on PC in an unplayable state for many players.
