When discussing the many wonderful Pixar films out there, The Incredibles often gets overlooked (although our very own Caleb Daniel put it pretty high on his Pixar list). Maybe it’s because it did not have the marketing blitz that some of their other films have had. Maybe it’s because it is one of the few Pixar films that deal with people, rather than talking animals or personified objects. Or maybe it’s because it is due for a sequel – which, lucky for us, Disney-Pixar has released a teaser trailer for. Whet your appetite with the new teaser for The Incredibles 2 below:
Baby Jack-Jack, who apparently has all sorts of powers now, is the main feature of the trailer. There is not a ton of footage of The Incredibles 2 shown, but it looks like it will manage to capture the same tone as the original.
Not much is known about the plot of The Incredibles 2, but it sounds like it will be a similar idea to the original. Helen Parr, aka Elastigirl, is called upon to save the world. That leaves Bob Parr, aka Mr. Incredible, home to babysit. The “Whaaaa? A man can’t care for children!” trope is a little played out, but Pixar has earned enough goodwill that I will give them the benefit of the doubt here.
Most of the cast of the original film returns for The Incredibles 2. Craig T. Nelson (Mr. Incredible), Holly Hunter (Elastigirl), Samuel L. Jackson (Frozone), and Sarah Vowell (Violet Parr) are all reprising their roles. Dash is voiced by a new actor, even though it appears the sequel is set in a very similar time period to the original. Brad Bird is also returning to write and direct, as he did with the first film.
The Incredibles 2 is scheduled to release on June 15, 2018. Stay tuned for more details as they become available.
