Sometimes, the absolute audacity of boomers is enough to drive a person insane. I can imagine that working in the presence of rude, out-of-touch boomers is anything but fun. However, it probably adds a lot of excitement to a person’s day. A Tennessee server explained that working around people from this generation is one of the most difficult things she does on a day-to-day basis. She angrily details some of the things she sees in her line of work and why she thinks “old people need to eat at home.”
Kenz (@cocainekenz) asks if old people are out of their minds. She outlines things she dealt with in her day as a server at the Cheesecake Factory. She sarcastically said on this day some “crochety old women” were in her serving section, and it was a “real treat.” While serving one couple, she said their food runner came out with plates in both hands. Since he wasn’t able to carry everything in one go, he brought it out in two sections. The elderly woman at the table proclaimed, “Well, we’re missing stuff!” For some reason, she didn’t understand that he could only carry so much at one time and was going back for the rest. Kenz tried to make a joke and told the woman, “He left his other two arms at home.” However, when she said this, she said the angry old boomer gave her a “death stare” and didn’t think it was funny.
This wasn’t the end of the daily annoyances for Kenz, though. At her last table of the day, Kenz said that a group of elderly women wanted twelve separate checks. This was a big and annoying ask. This left Kenz feeling exasperated but it didn’t end there. She said that an older woman “who was an absolute nutcase” tapped Kenz on her back four times. She was in the middle of taking an order and said she had to “compartmentalize” so she could keep her cool. Kenz told her that she would be with her in a moment but this didn’t appease the boomer woman. She rudely stood there, waiting, and then tried to interrupt Kenz while she was taking an order.
It’s the entitlement of boomers that drives servers crazy. Kenz sounds as if she’s at the end of her rope as she talks about how impatient boomers can be. Several didn’t want to wait a few minutes for their food during busy times. On top of that, one boomer even asked for a manager a total of six times during her service. It’s enough to make you wonder what they do with their time. It seems like they use all that extra time simply to make others miserable!
One commenter pointed out, “I feel like people would stop acting like this if the managers stopped rewarding their horrible behavior with comped meals and free desserts. It’s infuriating.” Another server shared, “The worst is when the retirement homes have a reservation and they all show up on the old person bus. We used to call it the hearse.” That’s awful… but probably warranted, given modern boomer’s behaviors.
