Donald Trump has been a divisive figure ever since winning the presidency and inflicting his will on the United States people. Some hate him, some love him; the one thing nobody on either side can deny is ICE and how effective it has been in the months since. From smash-and-grab tactics and masked officers, they are about to ramp up their efforts in Florida with the Army, as troops are being sent to assist them in major activities.

700 troops have been mobilized to help ICE in raids in Florida, Louisiana and Texas

In a post shared on Reddit in the EyesOnIce thread, user Imlogo1 shared a concerning news post, moreso if you are an immigrant or happen to be acquainted with any and live in the sunshine state of Florida, ICE is coming, and this time, the army is coming with them.

The post also included a statement from the United States Department of Defense, which reads as follows.

Last week, the Secretary of Defense authorized the mobilization of up to 700 DoD military personnel in support of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Florida, Louisiana, and Texas.

These service members, drawn from all components and operating in a Title 10 duty status, will provide logistical support, and conduct administrative and clerical functions associated with the processing of illegal aliens at ICE detention facilities. They will not directly participate in law enforcement activities.

In maintaining the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security of the United States, the Department of Defense works alongside with the Department of Homeland Security, the lead federal agency in this critical effort. This support provides critical resources to support ICE’s mission, freeing up law enforcement personnel to focus on law enforcement tasks and missions. The Department remains committed to securing 100% operational control of the border.

Now on the surface, this seems like they are dismissing the notion of troops on the ground besides ICE, but some people in the comments also noted doing it in this manner allowed the government to sidestep any rules or laws about troop deployment into state lines. In a news story by the IndependantUK, several folks had some things to say about this concerning incident.

“Authoritarian 101. No protests but must instigate violence so martial law can be declared. Thank you maga, for extinguishing civil rights you didn’t bother to learn about”

“And it’s just as illegal in Florida and Texas as it is in California.”

“So troops being deployed bypassing the relevant States National Guard. An interesting new tactic to sideline Governors from what he sees as necessary support to ICE agents.”

According to the statement, troops were sent last week to Florida, Louisiana, and Texas. Be careful if you live in these areas, as ICE isn’t slowing down its efforts anytime soon.
