What started as a quiet October night in Frankford, Philadelphia, turned into sheer craziness when a speeding car tore through a neighborhood intersection, slammed into another vehicle, and then blasted into the side of a family’s home. The crash, which happened around 3:30 a.m., left one driver critically injured, a house partially destroyed, and stunned residents convinced they’d just lived through the experience.
Chaos in the Middle of the Night
Police say the violent crash happened around 3:30 a.m. near Oxford Avenue, Horrocks Street, and Kenwyn Street. Investigators believe a Honda tore through a stop sign before colliding with a Toyota, sending the Toyota’s driver to Albert Einstein Medical Center in critical condition. The impact sent the Honda flying off course, directly into the side of a nearby residence.
The collision left a gaping hole in the brick wall of the house, scattering debris across the street and into the yard. Inside, stunned residents were jolted awake as bricks crashed down around them.
“The crash shook the entire block,” one neighbor told reporters. “It was like a bomb went off.”
Emergency crews rushed to the scene, pulling injured victims from the wreckage and working to stabilize the structure. Officials with the Department of Licenses & Inspections were later called to determine if the damaged home was safe to occupy. The extent of the destruction has left residents wondering if the family will ever be able to move back in.
Adding to the story, the Honda driver fled the scene on foot. Police describe the suspect only as a Black man wearing a white shirt and say they are combing through nearby surveillance footage in hopes of tracking him down.
Neighbors are furious that the man responsible for the devastation simply ran away. “We’re just lucky no one inside that house was killed,” another resident said. “He needs to be caught before this happens again.”
As of Monday afternoon, police had not confirmed whether charges would be filed against the driver once he is located.
