Driving an off-road vehicle doesn’t always mean you can go off-roading in the middle of a city, and one driver from Dallas, Texas, had to learn that the hard way. In a now-viral clip online, the Texas driver — who was driving a Ford Bronco Heritage, nonetheless, tried to cut into a sidewalk to demonstrate his vehicle’s off-roadiness, only to get stuck on a large rock, likely needing a towing service to get himself out of his predicament:
The incident happened around late September near the Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament show on Stemmons Freeway, Dallas, Texas. The Bronco was waiting for a turn behind another car to merge onto the freeway, but for some reason, the driver grew impatient. They probably thought that since they had an off-road SUV, they might as well cut into the sidewalk.
Too bad the large rock got in the way, and while the front wheels were able to power through the obstacle, the rock got lodged in the middle of the chassis, leaving the Bronco stuck. Funny enough, the Bronco didn’t even need to cut through the sidewalk since the car in front of it was already turning. A few seconds of waiting could’ve saved him from a rather pricey towing service call.
Of course, there was also plenty of second-hand embarrassment to be felt in this kind of situation, and the viewers couldn’t help but point out how humiliating it was for an off-road vehicle, “That is embarrassing as hell,“ according to a commenter, summing it up. It’s not clear what happened afterward or how the Bronco got out.
Lesson Learned for Ford and Texas Drivers?
People online had a mix of emotions regarding this particular Ford Bronco driver, but most of them were making fun of the driver for their antics. Some pointed out that the Bronco is not exactly a cheap car to be messing around with, while others pointed out just how common these incidents are on Dallas roads, given the dangerously impatient drivers, “I knew this looked like Dallas. Very impatient drivers here,” swears a Texan in the comment section.
It also appears that the driver in this particular Bronco mishap got a little too convinced by Ford’s marketing ploy, which positioned the Bronco SUVs as off-road powerhouses. In any case, it’s not the first time an embarrassing road “accident” happened in Texas; in the past, a brand new luxury car even crashed in Texas because of a lover’s quarrel.
“Everything’s bigger in Texas except the prefrontal cortex,” jokes another commenter, though his comment doesn’t best represent the population of the state. “That’s not a cheap Bronco either. The Heritage is a pretty hefty penny to be high centering on a city’s landscape rock. Anyways, that’s where it lives now,” according to a commenter familiar with the Bronco line.
