A city in Texas is currently stricken with terror after a dozen stray cats turned up dead and mutilated all over the community. Apparently, the cats are disappearing only to turn up dead later on, as some of the residents have noticed. The incident has been ongoing since September 2024, and while it’s easy to chalk up the feline deaths as wild animal casualties, locals are baffled because most of the cats were either cut in half or in pieces– cleanly.
The string of what is currently assumed to be animal cruelty is taking place in the city of Copperas Cove in Coryell County, Texas. Wanda Moore is a local Samaritan in South Park who has been feeding the local stray cats for nearly two decades and thus knows the cats from their distinct features. Moore has even named all of them.
Moore also swears that the numbers are down; she used to see an average of 40 cats in her feeding circle, but now there are fewer than 25 of them, meaning the initial slain cat count could be higher than a dozen. Speaking of which, more than a dozen of them have been found mutilated, their bodies cut in half with large missing pieces.
“It was cut in half, clean cut. I’m thinking it’s a person, I could be wrong. I hope I’m wrong,” according to Moore, transcript courtesy of KBTX
While coyotes or owls are some of the more obvious culprits, the clean-cut indicates the usage of tools, which, as Moore worries, could mean that a budding psychopath could be living among them. Another Copperas Cove resident named Ed Oaks– also a stray cat feeder has buried nine cats behind his house, and they weren’t whole when buried.
Serial Killer or Wild Animal?
The latest in the string of Texas cat murders was discovered just this Tuesday, with a woman named Irene Pierson reporting a dead, mutilated cat on the kids’ playground. Pierson, however, is frustrated on top of being scared for her community, as the police don’t seem to be taking the case seriously despite the increasing number of dead and butchered cats.
That isn’t to say the Copperas Cove Police Department isn’t aware of the dead cats. KBTX has reached out to the cops, but they merely chalked it up to a wild animal attack. And despite Wanda Moore claiming that the cats were cut cleanly in half and that coyotes don’t roam in their community, the police insist that there’s still no clear evidence that a person mutilated the cats.
Meanwhile, it’s no secret anymore that budding serial killers often start with small animals first before moving on to humans, hence why some of the locals in Copperas Cove are worried for their community.
“Im just saying if I ever catch someone myself doing this to an animal I will put you in the hospital for AT LEAST a week 😅,” swears Storm Rae Pizana
“Future serial resides there,” predicts Christine Brown
“Ooo let me catch you tryin to hurt my cats. They won’t find you. Ever,” says Mikey Hickman
“They worried about the kids when I am like 90% sure this is a kid. Profile um, uhh white male 11-14yo. Perhaps younger but the frequency and idea of a cat cleanly cut in half leads me to believe they are above 10. Strength and like thought to do such a thing,” assumes Droopy Cee
