Whether a dog, cat, or even a fish, taking care of a pet requires responsibility. That said, a pet owner in Texas has sparked debate on Reddit about whether they are responsible for their dog, as they decided to leave it in the bed of their truck while driving around town — in the pouring rain. Now, it can be said that many dogs love getting wet and playing in the rain, but someone who spotted this truck driver’s dog didn’t think it was having a good time.
“Driver is a top-notch a**hole,” remarks the Texas resident, referring to the truck driver going about on a rainy day with their dog in the bed. “If you know this person, shame them for putting their poor doggo in the bed to drive through the rain.” A Reddit commenter believes that the dog getting wet isn’t the main issue, though; it’s the unsecured items in the back. “I’m more concerned about all the crap sliding back and hitting the dog tbh,” they note.
Other people chime in, saying that the stuff in the truck bed might have already been tied down; perhaps OP just didn’t notice it. “I bet that dog is absolutely LOVING being in the rain. It’s a godd*mned water dog after all,” protests a Reddit user. Others agreed, but only to an extent: “Yeah but this doesn’t excuse having a dog back there literally the worst place for a dog. People like “love” their pets but just for show.” OP came in to second their point, saying, “Wound up behind them for a few miles, the dog was ducking down to get out of the rain, pupper’s wasn’t enjoying it.”
Still, the majority claimed the dog probably enjoyed the rainy Texas weather, and OP shouldn’t have been so concerned about it. “Imagine thinking getting dogs wet is inhumane,” remarks one Redditor. “This is top-notch Karen-class rage bait,” says another. Whatever the case, if the stuff in the back wasn’t securely strapped down, that dog owner is most certainly irresponsible.
