It is true that not everyone wants to be filmed in public, especially by total strangers, but if it is for safety reasons, sometimes you have to ease up a little. A dashcam video uploaded by a Texas Lyft driver captured a heated exchange between her and one of her male passengers, who was upset that she had a camera recording their trip. The footage showed the driver finishing her route when the passenger, seated in the back, suddenly asked if the camera mounted near her dashboard was recording.
When the woman replied that it was, he demanded she delete the footage because he had not given his consent to be filmed. The driver explained that all rideshare users are informed about dashcams through the app’s disclaimer and that she would not be erasing anything. The man argued that while she could do whatever she wanted, he personally did not agree to being recorded. The driver reiterated that it was her car and that the recording was for safety reasons. She also suggested that if he had an issue with it, he should contact customer support instead of taking it up with her. Despite her explanation, the man kept repeating that he had not given consent.
More on What Happened
As he and his elderly companion, who had stayed quiet during the whole exchange, stepped out of the car, the man made a remark that instantly changed the driver’s mood. Turning back toward her, he said, “And use headphones by yourself too.” That final comment seemed to offend the driver, who quickly got out of her seat and shouted for him to “get the [expletive] out of my car.” She walked up to him near the back of her vehicle, pointing as she yelled that he should not disrespect her inside her own car.
The man stopped in his tracks and shouted back, and for a few tense seconds, they stood face-to-face yelling at each other. Another woman nearby noticed the commotion and stepped between them, trying to calm both parties down. The man eventually backed away, still yelling, while the driver continued shouting that she would slap him if he kept disrespecting her.
What People Are Saying About the Texas Dashcam Incident
Many netizens sided with the driver, saying the incident proved why dashcams are necessary. Someone wrote, “And that’s why a camera is needed,” Another said, “This is why it has become a new policy to have a dashcam.” Even a few felt the man was simply trying to provoke her, with one user adding, “They just wanted to argue with a woman.”
One person pointed out how unreasonable the passenger’s timing was. “Why did he wait the entire ride to say something lmao mannn watch outttt 😂,” the viewer commented. A different netizen joked, “And now he got himself put on the internet 😂😂😂.”
Some viewers, however, cautioned the driver to avoid getting out of her vehicle in future confrontations. “Sis, don’t ever get out of the car like that. I’m glad you’re okay but that could have ended so badly,” a concerned commenter said. Another wrote, “Girl, you should stop following behind these ppl, especially if they are okay with conflict.” Someone else asked, “Why would a lady jump out her car to try and fight a man? Because of words?”
