Texas Man Discovers He’s Married Even Though He Never Had a Wedding, ‘What Do I Have to Do to Fix It?’

Well, that isn’t legal in the slightest

A wedding ceremony is supposed to be something special you go through with your significant other. So, what happens when you never actually get the chance to say “I do?” Is that even possible? One Texas man was in for a surprise when he discovered he never actually attended a wedding, but was still married. And the bride? Well, it was a past fling. A former match made in Heaven was now a horror story.

As reported by Fox 44, a 42-year-old man from Texas was shocked to discover that, after he broke up with his ex, the break-up wasn’t as final as he had hoped. His ex-fiancé, Kristin Marie Spearman, sent him some items after their breakup, which included a gift bag. Inside the bag, he was absolutely stunned to see an officiated marriage license with both of their names. It was dated June 13, 2025. Kristin had also kindly included a photo of her holding the document as proudly as ever.

The Texas man told authorities that, yes, he did go with Kristin to the county clerk’s office to receive a marriage license. However, the ex-fiance missed her chance when he decided to break up with her a few days later.

Even though both parties must appear in person together for a marriage to be complete, Kristin found a pastor who would certify the marriage even though the victim never went with her to the alter. How she did this, we don’t know. It takes a special type of stalker.

Chief Martin from the Beverly Hills Police Department responded to the incident, “I don’t think in 23 years I’ve ever heard of anybody who managed somehow to get married to someone who wasn’t present for a ceremony.”

Chief Martin continued, “I’ve talked to the victim and he’s going through a significant process to try to have to fix this.” He said that the victim is concerned about his property and if Kristin will have any rights. But also, “You know, which is a huge conversation in this, but also, ‘What do I have to do to fix it?’”

As for Kristin Spearman, she’s been arrested and charged with third-degree felony stalking. It does call into question, though, what about the pastor that certified it? And was the end result worth it? Perhaps this is a window into why the break-up happened in the first place.
