With plenty of rage bait circling the internet, it is unsurprising many posters found new fodder: singling out people who receive government assistance. In our modern times with people feuding politically, it is easy to find people sharing their disgust regarding welfare. One Texas woman’s rage bait video on TikTok has people up in arms over something that is a reality for too many people in America: the loss of necessary benefits.
Shiloh—mama_shiloh.x0 on TikTok—posted a video with a caption labelled, “My food stamps went from $4,400 to $38 and Section 8 is refusing to pay my rent tomorrow. How am I supposed to live and support SIX kids?? How can they go this to me??” She explains her ‘predicament’ and asks, “What am I supposed to do with $38 with six kids?” Shilo explains she won’t be receiving disability checks, nor is her rent getting paid.
If you don’t already suspect Shiloh is pulling your leg, you’ll know when she says, “I am allergic to work. I refuse to work. The whole reason I had kids was the amount of government benefits that you get for one child.” She also says the dependency age has been lowered to age 7. None of her children qualify now.
In the comments section, you can tell that many commenters missed the part of Shiloh’s profile that says “For Entertainment Purposes Only. SATIRE. RAGE BAIT” because scrolling through the comments shows pure anger at Shiloh. One person reacted with, “You’re supposed to get a job!!!”
Another commented with, “Free ride is over with.” One commenter angrily shared, “My mom has worked all her life in this country. Was diagnosed with cancer and only gets $37 a month in food stamps. Get a job lady! Those that really need it don’t, and those that don’t do! Over it!”
The problem is, even though this particular video is rage bait, it reveals a nasty attitude people have towards those with government assistance. The truth is, there are people who actually cannot work and benefits keep them alive.
They also have to understand that the majority of people on welfare of any kind do/are required to work a certain amount to receive any number of benefits. On top of that, individuals are being denied benefits they deserve on a daily basis because of oversight. You will be hard-pressed to find a family who wants to rely on the government for anything. It isn’t just a comfortable place to be where everything is handed to people on a silver platter.
