From uniforms to the way children spend their time, there are many instances of strict schools across America. As a parent, you want your child to be able to express themselves. Unfortunately, some schools only care about keeping children in line. A Texas mom was baffled when she discovered that her son’s lunchbox choices weren’t permitted at his school. The reason? They contained characters. The letter that followed was enough to make any parent feel angry.
Bri Weimar (@goodbyetwenties) posted a TikTok video captioned, “My son’s school banned character lunchboxes.” She continued with, “Hold on while I look for lunchboxes that meet the uniform policy.” Then, she holds up two lunchboxes with popular characters from movies and TV shows on them, which apparently are no longer permitted. She received an accompanying letter in the mail to go with the warning. It was a “Notice of Confiscated Lunchbox,” which is as ridiculous as it sounds.
As Bri goes through the letter, she says she didn’t realize that part of the children’s uniforms included what’s on their lunchbox. She reads in the letter that cartoon characters aren’t allowed and his so happened to have Paw Patrol on it. They told her that the characters could be distracting to children who attend the school. Keep in mind, her child is in kindergarten. There’s a bigger problem if children are being so easily distracted by another child’s lunchbox.
The school also gave her instructions on what lunchbox to buy for him. It had to be within an approved color palette, which was a choice of several boring colors. They told her it also had to be made from an accepted material, like leather or canvas. As for her son’s lunchbox, the school took it and threw it away. Talk about crossing lines.
One commenter told Bri, “I’d be looking for a new school… can’t even imagine what other rules they have for these kindergarteners.” Another person pointed out, “They better pay for the property they threw away.” When it comes to private schools, it’s apparent that you truly never know what you’re going to get. They can really pick and choose what they want to do in regards to any rules. This makes it difficult on both the parents and the children.
