Texas Women Denied Entry at Upscale Dining Spot Over ‘Inappropriate’ Outfits: ‘Proud of the Restaurant for Having Some Moral Standards’

Can’t say I blame them

A group of women who recently went to an upscale restaurant in Houston, Texas, for a birthday dinner say they were refused entry despite having a reservation because their outfits did not meet the dress code. The incident, which was shared on TikTok and has now pulled in over 500,000 views, has left many people debating whether their clothing was truly the issue or if something else was at play.

IT IS DEFINITELY OKAY FOR RESTAURANTS TO HAVE DRESS CODES, HOWEVER THE SECURITY GUARDS SHOULD KEEP THE SAME ENERGY WHEN IT COMES TO EVERYONE, AND I MEAN EVERYBODY!!! #riveroaks #riveroaksdistrict #houstonrestaurants #fyp #CapCut

According to one of the women, the group had arrived at a restaurant in the River Oaks District for a 9:00 p.m. reservation when they were told they would not be allowed inside. She claimed staff pointed out three of the women’s outfits as the problem, saying two dresses were too short while a third exposed too much around the chest and shoulders. The group also showed what each person was wearing in the video.

While the woman said she understands that restaurants are allowed to enforce dress codes, she questioned whether those rules were being applied fairly. At the end of the clip, she showed three other women who she claims had just left the restaurant. Their outfits, she says, looked similar to what her group had on.

“How do you want us to feel when we saw other people coming in and out of Cocody wearing this?” she asked in another video. “It looked like the rules didn’t apply to those girls, but it applied to us.” Despite the setback, the woman said their night was not completely ruined. They eventually went to another nearby restaurant, where they were accommodated after a short wait without a reservation.

Netizens’ Reactions to the Texas Women’s Experience

In the comments under the videos, many viewers weighed in on whether the restaurant was justified in its decision. Some sided with the establishment, arguing that certain outfits did not fit what they considered appropriate for a high-end venue. “As they should, let’s be classy 👀,” one person wrote. Someone else added, “I’m not shocked I’m actually proud of the restaurant for having some moral standards!” A third commenter admitted, “I wanted to be on your side, however 😬🫢.”

Another group of netizens also agreed that at least one of the outfits was right to be called out. They wrote things like, “I’m sorry, 1 and 3 need to have better decorum,” “Fit 1 & 3 ruined it for the group,” and “Number three is the reason. The cream dress is very inappropriate.”

At the same time, some defended the group and questioned why they were singled out. “The way y’all are sitting here blaming the outfit of what a person has on when she just showed yall three people that walked out of that restaurant is baffling,” one comment read. Another added, “I think y’all are missing the point. Yes, there is a standard to follow. The issue is it doesn’t seem to apply for everyone across the board.”

It remains unclear whether the restaurant recently updated its dress code or if the rules have been enforced inconsistently, as some netizens who said they had visited the establishment claimed they were allowed in wearing similarly short outfits.
