‘That’s a Floodlight’: New Florida Neighbors Install a Security Light Capable Of Blinding Everyone Who Looks at It

Blinded by the lights

When it comes to new neighbors, you never know what you’ll get. Some people are lucky and get neighbors who mind their own business, are nice to everyone in the street, and don’t really look to cause trouble. However, others end up creating issues even without wanting to. To give you an example of this, one person in Florida recently shared a picture of a house across the street. Apparently, new neighbors moved in and decided to install a security light to feel safe at night. Yet, what they were not expecting was for this light to be as bright as a lighthouse.

Is that the full moon shining in through the window? No, it's just the neighbor's new security light

The OP who shared the pictured aptly titled it, “Is that the full moon shining through the window? No, it’s the neighbor’s new security light.” As you can see, the picture clearly shows the house’s security light shining as bright as a lighthouse, or something at least close to that.

The one who shared the picture mentioned that they haven’t met the neighbors yet, so they haven’t had the chance to talk to them about this situation. They also mention that this isn’t such a big deal, since they spend their time in rooms at the back of the house, so the light doesn’t bother them much. Still, it seems the security light activates via motion sensors, and any car triggers it, so there’s a lot of flashing, especially at night.

It would also seem that the new neighbors who moved to the block and installed this lighthouse-like light are unaware of its strength and positioning.

The above image is a comment from the OP, and you can see how it’s more than a security light; it looks like a floodlight, which shouldn’t be allowed in a residential area, as it can cause disturbances for people inside their homes and even for cars that might be driving down the road.

In any case, a lot of Redditors gave OP some advice on how to deal with the situation, while others were just shocked by the lack of the neighbors’ self-awareness with their light.

“That’s a floodlight. There isnt really an adjust angle option. It’s still going to be glaring,” said one user.

“Legally, nothing you can do, but if you have an HOA, be petty about it and make them angle that thing down a bit,” commented another user.

This might be a rare occasion when involving the HOA is ideal. It is a “break in case of emergency” situation, and one we hope has a peaceful resolution for all.
