Wisconsin Republican gubernatorial nominee Tom Tiffany has recently raised eyebrows after reportedly campaigning with musician Ted Nugent. Nugent previously admitted to having sex with underage girls, sparking a backlash against the gubernatorial candidate among Wisconsin voters.
According to The Milwaukee Courier, Tiffany appeared at a campaign event in Green Bay with Ted Nugent. While meeting a musician at a political event would not normally be alarming, Nugent previously admitted to having sex with underage girls in a 1998 documentary called “Behind the Music.”
At the time, he described himself as “addicted to girls” and said that he generally “got the stamp of approval of their parents.” He also has a song called “Jailbait,” released in 1981, which describes what could be considered statutory rape.
Wisconsin’s age of consent is 18, with an exception for certain marriage cases, where the minimum age is 16. Any sexual contact with a child under 13 is considered First-Degree Sexual Assault of a Child, a felony.
Tiffany’s Encounter With Ted Nugent Sparks Backlash
Tiffany’s association with Ted Nugent did not go over well with many residents on r/Wisconsin, who had harsh words for him. One of them wrote: “Well, that’s ENTIRELY on-brand.” Another added: “Tiffany is bad for Wisconsin.”
Even the Republican Party of Wisconsin received some flak, with one seemingly angry commenter saying, “Republicans are some seriously sick [expletive].”
Some people recalled that Tiffany had previously failed to support a ban on child marriage: “As a member of the Wisconsin legislature, Tom Tiffany did not support banning child marriage in Wisconsin. There is no purpose for child marriage outside of pedophilia. Tom Tiffany supports pedophilia.”
Others expressed concern that he would not protect victims: “If Tiffany becomes governor of Wisconsin, I don’t trust him to keep perverts and violent rapists in prison. What’s to stop him from cutting off state funding for victim programs? It’s important for victims to have support with the court system.”
One seemingly concerned parent also criticized the Republican nominee: “My kid and I live ten minutes away from the governor’s mansion. Please don’t let this creep live that close to my kid.”
The outlet that originally reported the story contacted Tom Tiffany, but he has not yet publicly commented on his association with Nugent as of this report.
