It’s not simple to discover every easter egg a game has to offer. In many cases, they’re well hidden. Other times, they hide in plain sight but are easy to overlook. We’ve discovered a few easter eggs in Dead Island 2 and narrowed our picks down to our top 10 favorites.
10. Streamer Awards Dead Island 2 Easter Egg
Dead Island 2 features numerous references to content creators and online streamers. An obvious nod is the awards in the content creator house. From the YouTube Streamy Awards to the recent Streamer Awards, there are a few ways that online creators can gain more recognition. It’s no surprise that Dead Island 2 jumped at something so prevalent in pop culture.
9. NICKMERCS Easter Egg
If you don’t know, NICKMERCS is a popular competitive streamer with FaZe Clan. There’s a blink-and-you-miss-it easter egg in Dead Island 2 with his logo. In the content creator’s house, there’s a room with a massive PC setup. On the wall and the screensavers are Spartan helms. It’s a reference to the NICKMERCS logo. So far, it’s unclear why the streamer was referenced in the game.
8. YouTube Profanity Rule Easter Egg
Whether you play video games or make other video content, YouTube has clear guidelines. One of those is a profanity rule, one that has seen many content creators demonetized. A fun reference is from our Dead Island 2 favorite content creator Amanda Styles as she states, “And no swearing in the first minute. I’m already on two strikes.”
7. Influencer Apology Dead Island 2 Easter Egg
Many influencers have seen their reputation tank for numerous reasons, from hate speech to committing a crime. One thing that remains amusing in all of it is the apology. Dead Island 2 readily pokes fun at how most influencer apologies come across as dishonest and faked by highlighting a pre-written apology script in the content house.

6. Arcade Machines Easter Egg
Yet another easter egg discovered in the GOAT Pen, you can find several arcade machines lined up. What makes this a hidden gem is the title of some of the games. You’ll notice other Deep Silver games, TimeSplitters and Homefront: The Revolution, on the machines.
5. The Shining Easter Egg
Horror and Stephen King go hand-in-hand, so it’s no surprise Dead Island 2 included a nod to the famous author. More specifically, the easter egg is The Shining with the famous words: Redrum. This one is highly missable because it’s on a door you won’t notice unless you get close. You’ll happen upon it during the “Beach Offensive” mission at the military base. Many players opt to restore power and open the door ASAP, and you may miss it when it happens.
4. Saving Private Ryan Easter Egg
Saving Private Ryan is a classic war film, and Dead Island 2 included a quick reference. It occurs during “Boz Makes a Bang” at the movie studios in a line by the main character: “Another medal of honor for Private Ryan.” This line might only occur with Ryan as your Slayer.

It’s always nice to throwback to the previous game, more so seeing that Dead Island 2 took 12 years to release. At Emma’s place, Sam B will bring up characters from the first game. Walk by him a few times to trigger conversations, and he’ll talk about characters like Xian Mei and Logan.

We can’t have Sam B in the game and not mention, “Who do you voodoo b*tch?” It’s one of the most iconic lines from Dead Island, and it gets brought up well in Dead Island 2 during a conversation in the mansion.

Talking zombies aren’t new to Dead Island. In the first game, the Suiciders spoke, begging for help when you encounter them. Now, it’s the Bursters’ turn in Dead Island 2. You encounter several throughout the game. All you need to do is listen. There’s a creepy encounter behind a door during the “Creature Comforts” side quest.
