'The Boys Spinoff Showrunners

The Boys spinoff series is moving forward once more, but with new showrunners. Following the departure of Craig Rosenberg as showrunner, Amazon has brought in Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters. The new showrunners for The Boys were previously the co-showrunners on Agent Carter, Emergence, Reaper, and Resurrection. Despite departing the spinoff, Rosenberg will still serve as an Executive Producer on The Boys. On a related note, The Boys has finished filming on season three.

The Show Must Go On

The spinoff is set in America’s only college exclusively for young adult superheroes. Conveniently enough, the school is also run by Vought International. The show is described as “an irreverent, R-rated show that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities.” Development for the show began in September 2020.

Thus far, there have only been a handful of actors announced. Lizze Broadway (The Rookie), Aimee Carrero (Elena of Avalor), Reina Hardesty (The Flash), Shane Paull McGhie (Deputy), Maddie Phillips (Teenage Bounty Hunters), and Jaz Sinclair (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) star in the show.

Much like The Boys, the spinoff will be produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television. Fazekas and Butters serve not only as the new showrunners, but also as Executive Producers. Joining them as Executive Producers are Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Ken Levin, Jason Netter, Garth Ennis, Darick Robertson, and Michaela Starr.

Amazon has a certified hit on their hands with The Boys. While I’m a bit uneasy at the concept behind the spinoff, the team behind it has earned my trust. Something about it just makes me think of it being Van Wilder or American Pie with superheroes. I doubt that will be the case, but I can’t shake the feeling. Either way, if it turns out anything like the main series, it will be a dark and hilarious show that pushes boundaries in all the best ways.
