People were hoarding the product in case it ran out, which led to wild situations nationwide. Now, it seems the egg frenzy is the event of the moment, as many people in California are raiding Costco establishments, taking as many eggs as they can with them. While we can all agree that the prices are soaring, this doesn’t justify turning a normal egg-shopping day into an out-of-season Black Friday.
One video shared by user Orichalchem in the r/AbruptChaos subreddit shows how many people have been invading Costco establishments in California to buy as many eggs as possible. While the video seems to be a compilation of different stores, you can observe that, in all of them, people are going straight for the eggs.
Even if the wholesale approach of Costco can be a life-saver in many cases, the actions of these people are a bit too much. You can even see a clip of news reporter, Jim Moret, claiming that some people are offering chicken-rental services.
The clip ends abruptly with some people arguing with a cartful of eggs behind them. It’s safe to assume that the egg frenzy in California has reached new levels, and if things do not improve, we’ll be looking at a toilet paper 2.0 situation.
As expected, many people find this behavior to be deplorable.
Just pure, unabashed selfishness. Most of these eggs will be destroyed in the tussle or gone to waste because of buying too much in an attempt to hoard.

Many had instant toilet paper flashbacks. As you may or may not recall, depending on where you lived, a lot of people ran to their nearest store to hoard as many toilet paper rolls as possible. This led to these establishments not having paper, and in some scenarios, people were even re-selling toilet paper. If this happens with eggs, we would not be that surprised, especially since some individuals never learn that hoarding is bad.
In any case, the situation is affecting us all, but this type of behavior isn’t the greatest. Yet, if the authorities do not find a solution for the overpriced eggs, these scenarios will become more common. Not only in California, but in every other place where people just want to get their eggs.
