Late rapper, Chino XL‘s family is hoping to touch lives with their candid account of his cause of death, dropping the bombshell revelation that he died from suicide. The iconic rapper, who had an age-long beef with Tupac Shakur decades back shockingly passed away on Sunday, July 28. At the time, his family released a public statement on social media confirming his passing, while withholding the circumstances surrounding his demise and a possible death cause.
Weeks later, the legends’ family is ready to open up, in the hopes of saving someone else from meeting the same fate. In honor of Suicide Awareness Month marked annually in September, Chino XL’s family disclosed his shocking cause of death as suicide. In a public statement, the family disclosed,
“With the most profound sadness imaginable, we share the news that our beloved father decided to end his own Life. It’s been the most painful and personal experience of our lives but in honor of Suicide Awareness Month, we decided to share this truth. Dad would hope that this news may help someone else stay alive.”
This revelation conformed to the official cause of death which the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office released earlier. In the post-mortem report, the medical examiner listed Chino XL’s death cause as asphyxia resulting from ligature hanging, per TMZ. By implication, the famed music legend hung himself.
While the reasons behind the decision to take his own life would forever remain a mystery, the rap lord notably battled depression for most of his life. Chino XL, who died at 50 notably struggled with lifelong depression. Yet, he managed to gift the world some of the deepest lyrical lines that set him apart in the hip-hop realm. His health took another plunge in 2020 when he was diagnosed with congenital heart failure, his family disclosed.
His death at 50 shook the hip-hop world, with music industry big names from around the world paying their last respects with heartfelt tributes. A posthumous album in the icon’s name would drop in October 2024, a final nod to the rap legend whose impact on the world would forever live on.
