Image Comics is returning to The Department of Truth for another thrilling tale. James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds’ hit series is coming back this June for a brand-new story arc. It kicks off in The Department of Truth #23 and will unfold over the following issues. This includes the milestone 25th issue, which will be oversized for the occasion. News of a continuation of the series is not a big surprise. The series has been a hit for the publisher, selling hundreds of thousands of copies since its launch in 2020.
Now, The Department of Truth #23 picks the action right back up where issue #22 left off. The issue left fans reeling from a shocking cliffhanger, that will now get a chance to resolve. In the upcoming new story arc, the titular Department of Truth is in the middle of a blackmail scheme. A new enemy has emerged that threatens to expose the Department to the world. With their back against the wall, the Department decides to go public first.
To understand Lee Harvey Oswald’s risky move, the 23rd issue takes readers back to where it all began. Back to Dallas in 1963 as President John F. Kennedy’s motorcade passes the grassy knoll. James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds are taking readers on another wild ride after a lengthy hiatus. So, buckle up.
The Men Behind The Department Of Truth
Writer Tynion IV shared that a question he and Simmonds constantly get at conventions and online is always the same: “When is the Department of Truth coming back?”. Excitedly, they can now answer that question with a resounding “now.” The writer continued to share that now is the best time for this type of story. One that shines a light on America’s grimy underbelly. Plus, this new arc will finally examine why previous mysteries have always surrounded or centered on Lee Harvey Oswald. We will finally discover who shot JFK on that fateful day.
The Department of Truth #23 is on sale 06/26.
