Out of all the game reveals, announcements, and updates we got from the New Game Plus showcase, one of the best was definitely The Expanse: Osiris Reborn. Many of us have been following this game ever since it was unveiled. It has all the things we remember from an epic sci-fi adventure, and it even follows a beloved, renowned, and drama-filled science fiction universe. Speaking of which, a recent interview with the game’s developers confirmed that this title will have all the drama from the series, as your choices might even affect who stays and disappears from your party permanently.
The Expanse: Osiris Reborn Confirms Romance Mechanics With In-Depth Consequences
The recent interview that took place during the New Game Plus showcase mentioned many of the things that are coming to The Expanse: Osiris Reborn. Some of these details included combat systems, such as characters being able to pick a template but branch into different gameplay paths as they progress. Parts of the story, such as your character being a Pinkwater mercenary, and how that will kickstart the adventure. Yet, one of the most important revelations was that about romance.
As you know, a key aspect of any intergalactic adventure is your crew. According to the developers, you will have several companions in your journey, some of which you can already see in the game’s key art. However, that’s not all, as there will also be romance with your companions, although we don’t know which ones will be the bachelors and bachelorettes per se.
Another piece of information that the studio casually dropped pertains to choices. As you know, RPGs are all about the options you pick along your journey, and living with the consequences of them. Since the developers didn’t want to drop a lot of spoilers, they only confirmed that some of these decisions might affect who stays in your party and who doesn’t. Some might stay with you for all your adventures, and others might even suffer from a common RPG condition known as permadeath. Yes, one careless choice might force you to say goodbye to a companion forever.
This system is excellent, as that is a staple in many RPGs, or at least in the most memorable ones. It is always great to have a reactive party, and one that also shapes your journey as you go from one stage to another. In truth, we can’t wait to see who the final fomance options will be, but by the looks of it, and if history with Owlcat Games has taught us anything, is that we’ll have quite the memorable catalog to pick from.
