Secret Invasion is possibly MCU’s biggest shake-up since Avengers: Endgame and it’s not hard to see why. Where Endgame changed the very foundations of the MCU, so too is Secret Invasion by giving longtime MCU fans some major plot twists almost no one saw coming. There’s only one problem: if you want to watch these twists and turns unfold for yourself, you needed a Disney+ subscription. Today, Disney announced that the first three episodes of Secret Invasion will be available on Hulu before the season one finale.
In Marvel’s Secret Invasion, audiences follow Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) as he learns that Earth has been invaded by a race of shapeshifting aliens known as the Skrulls. Unbeknownst to Fury and his allies, the Skrull invasion has been happening for decades, directly under everyone’s noses, as the Skrull establish sleeper agents shapeshifted into some of our most beloved MCU characters. Together with Maria Hill (Colbie Smulders), Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), the former leader of the Skrulls turned refugee, Nick Fury has to save humanity from an invasion they don’t even know is happening.
The first season of Secret Invasion premiered on Disney+ on June 21st, 2023. Five episodes of the six-episode season are currently available to stream on Disney+, with the season finale currently set to air on July 26th. According to Deadline, the first three episodes of the season – “Ressurection”, “Promises” and “Betrayed” – will be making the jump to Hulu sometime in the next week. It’s not clear if the rest of the season will follow suit after the finale airs, but we do know that Secret Invasion isn’t the first show to be making this move, and it certainly won’t be the last.
Why Is Secret Invasion Moving to Hulu?
In the words of Disney CEO Bob Iger, the recent influx of movies and TV moving between Disney+ and Hulu is all part of an effort to integrate both platforms into a “one-app experience”. Aside from Secret Invasion, more Disney+ originals like High Fidelity (2020) and Love, Victor (2020) have also moved to Hulu, while Hulu’s The Mysterious Benedict Society (2021) moved to Disney+ before being removed from the platform in May. Iger’s integration plan, which is supposedly only taking place in the U.S., is meant to take effect by the end of the year. What this means for the future of Disney+ and Hulu originals is currently unclear.
Marvel’s Secret Invasion is directed and executive produced by Ali Salem. Kevin Feige, Jonathan Schwartz, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Samuel L. Jackson, Brian Tucker, Jennifer L. Booth, Allana Williams and Brant Englestein also executive produce the series, with Kyle Bradstreet doubling as head writer. Jennifer L. Booth, Allana Williams and Brant Englestein are co-executive producers.
Secret Invasion is currently available on Disney+. The first three episodes will be available to stream on Hulu until August 17th.
