A lot has happened in the last season, so here is what you should expect when The Handmaid’s Tale returns. Since the death of Commander Waterford (Joseph Fiennes), June must face the consequences while doing some soul-searching. Serena will deal with the deaf of her husband while leveraging any power she can while in Canada. Commander Lawrence (Bradley Whitford) and Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) continue to work in Gilead. June, Luke (O-T Fagbenle), and Moira (Samira Wiley) will continue their fight against Gilead while trying to save Hannah.
The Handmaid’s Tale Returns to Hulu as it Aims for the Endgame
When The Handmaid’s Tale returns this September, it will be its fifth season. While a significant series for Hulu and won 15 Emmies, an end will come eventually. There is an end in mind for showrunner Bruce Miller, but he is unsure how long it will take until he and the rest of the cast and crew reach that point.
“I always thought I did and that, I think, is a pandemic change,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “I thought I had a beginning, a middle and an end — and I still feel like I very much have an end — it’s just that I’m finding more interesting paths along the way and more interesting things to do as we move towards more fascinating parts of the story.”
Many seeds have been planted from season four, along with some ends being tied, like killing off Commander Waterford. Fans will have to see how season five plays out to get an idea for the future of Gilead.
