The Harvey Awards are one of the most prestigious honors bestowed on creators in the comic industry. Since 1988, these awards have recognized the outstanding achievements of creators across the entire industry. This includes digital works, manga, children’s books, television, and more. This year’s batch of nominees is no different, with creators being singled out for their amazing contributions to comics this year. The announcement of this year’s nominees comes a few months before the actual ceremony takes place during this year’s New York Comic Con.

The Harvey Awards are named after American cartoonist, writer, editor, and comic pioneer Harvey Kurtzman. Kurtzman is most notable for the creation of MAD magazine in 1952. From there, the iconic creator went on to create a variety of works including Humbug, Help!, and The Jungle Book. He also served as a mentor to several talents within the industry. They include Terry Gilliam, Gloria Steinem, and Robert Crumb.

This Year’s Honorees

This year’s batch of Harvey Award nominees comes from a committee of those within the industry. This committee includes creators and publishers as well as retailers and librarians. The nominees span six distinct categories: Book of the Year, Digital Book of the Year, Best Children or Young Adult Book, Best Adaptation from Comic Book/Graphic Novel, Best Manga, and Best International Book.

Plus, three special recognition awards will be announced during the New York Comic Con ceremony. They are the Comics Industry Pioneer Award, Harvey Hall of Fame Award, and International Spotlight Award. Here is a full list of the nominees this year:
