I’ll admit that when Piglet’s Big Movie came out, I was one of the people who desperately wanted to play Piglet’s Big Game. I remember walking into a Costco one day with my grandmother and begging her to buy it for me when I spotted it on a table stacked with boxes of random PS2 games. She didn’t even think twice about buying me a game starring Piglet because why would you? Something else I remember about this game was feeling strangely terrified by it and unable to finish it. Years later, it was sold in a garage sale so that I could raise money for a RipStik. Now, over 20 years later, the game has resurfaced on platforms like TikTok and YouTube for the same reason.
If you’re unfamiliar with the game, that makes sense. Similar to other movie-themed video games of the time, different versions of the game had different stories. The one I’m talking about here is the version available on GameCube and PS2. In it, Piglet needs to overcome his fears and face enemies such as scary trees, talking doors, woozles, and more to save his dreaming friends. At first glance, it seems like a normal game until you really get into the thick of the dreams being had by the members of the Hundred Acre Woods.
Streamers have been comparing Piglet’s Big Game’s gameplay and aesthetic to horror titles like Silent Hill and Resident Evil. To be honest, when you see it for yourself, you’ll know exactly what that scary comparison was made. Because of this massive jump in popularity, what was once a seemingly cheap game is now worth hundreds of dollars on eBay. Some of the listings even straight up say that it’s a ‘horror’ game, as pictured above.
