If you aren’t familiar with Renaissance festivals, one of the major traditions of attendees is to purchase a pickle. Yes, you read that correctly. The pickle is served on a napkin or a paper plate, ready for immediate consumption. For Disnkey Parkgoers, think of it similar to turkey legs at Frontierland. Faire pickles are now more popular than ever because of the Pickle Priest at the NYC Renaissance Faire, everyone’s favorite pickle vendor.
Various TikTok users have recorded their time with the Pickle Priest, who is known on the application as castriconed (Dan). He makes purchasing a pickle feel more special than pickle vendors before him, to the point where he has amassed incredibly long lines. First, he’ll choose the pickle from a barrel of them soaking in brine while improvising jokes and conversation.
From all of the videos I’ve seen on TikTok, Dan genuinely enjoys what he does, seemingly providing everyone with their personalized pickle experience. On the other side of that same coin, his customers love him, making him a fair icon.
Those unable to visit him in person at the NYC Renaissance Faire have expressed their desire to do so. Some commenters even go so far as to say that this surge in videos is getting them through the year.
I would absolutely love to meet the Pickle Priest, despite not being a fan of pickles. He seems determined to provide every customer with a unique and enjoyable experience. I also hope he knows how famous he is, especially since the videos he’s featured in have amassed over a million likes.
