Indie developer Black Mermaid, with a publishing partnership with Humble Games, has unleashed Moonscars. It’s a new 2D side-scrolling action title where Dark Souls comes into the mixture of the gameplay. Players will progress, die, and learn something about themselves as they proceed through the sinister adventure. Moonscars is available now for PC and several console platforms, and there’s a launch trailer to bring it all together.
In Moonscars, What Does Kill You, Makes You Stronger
Players, we take on the role of Grey Irma, a fierce warrior looking for answers. Mainly in regards to her existence, but her main objective is to face off against the villainous The Moon. Through this being, Grey will begin to understand the strange world she lives in. It’s a dark tale consumed with twists and turns that take our protagonist into troubling territory. Indeed, it sounds like a soulslike experience, but now we get to slay enemies in nostalgic 2D fashion.
For the Moonscars launch trailer, we’re given a solid glimpse into the pixelated adventure that awaits us. We have crispy audio, music infused with clean kills, and the reminder that we will die constantly. But again, that’s what Moonscars offers. As Grey dies, more revelations will come to light. In a way, we embrace death by learning more about ourselves in this world. It’s a rather grim way of presentation, but the game delivers on a promising execution for the player’s experience. Be sure to check out the launch trailer now for Moonscars, which we’ve attached here.
Moonscars is available now for $19.99. The playable platforms for the title include PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. The game’s development generates by indie studio Black Mermaid, which marks its first debut title. Publishing is through Humble Games, the publisher arm of Humble Bundle. They’ve previously released Temtem, Prodeus, Midnight Fight Express, and more, just to name a few.
