Sad new for Nintendo fans today. In the company’s financial reports it was announced that the NX would launch in March of 2017 with The Legend of Zelda Wii U as a launch title.
On top of that, the NX will not be shown at E3 this year, letting Nintendo focus on the remaining games for the Wii U. The console was originally announced last year and was rumored to be revealed at E3 this year and released this fall.
The Legend of Zelda Wii U will launch in 2017 for both the NX and Wii U. no further details were given but we can assume that the game will take advantage of each piece of hardware in different ways.
Not much has been seen of the much-anticipated title since its reveal at E3 2014. The first trailer showed Link in a new blue garb, riding through an open field and firing an energy arrow at a towering, mechanical enemy. That same year at the Game Awards, Shigeru Miyamoto, and Eiji Aonuma appeared in a video to show new gameplay features of the title. Link can leap off of his horse, slow down time and fire off shots from his bow at unsuspecting enemies.
These two pieces of news were accompanied by the revelation that Nintendo’s profits had fallen 61 percent. This is likely due to the failure of the Wii U and a lack of big releases. Star Fox Zero recently released for the Wii U, but it is unlikely to turn around the fortunes of the struggling console.
The NX will launch worldwide March 2017 alongside The Legend of Zelda Wii U. Stay tuned to the Nerd Stash as the story develops.
