As Joe Garrison settles in as Marvel’s newest Punisher, previews show he is about go toe-to-toe with a new Night Shift. This new gang of superpowered people appears to lean more on the villainous side. However, the original group, led by the Shroud, often worked to fight against the criminals of the Marvel Universe. So, while this new iteration of the group may debut as foes to the vigilante, that could change as the series progresses.
The Night Shift
The group known as the Night Shift began with the villain called Locksmith. This escape artist kidnapped superpowered people and kept them in his personal jail. Eventually, Spider-Woman freed these individuals, including the vigilante Shroud. From there, Shroud began recruiting the other super-prisoners to act like a criminal organization to cover up his actual vigilante work. Early members included Gypsy Moth, Dansen Macabre, Tick Tock, and others. Thus, the Night Shift was born.
Over the years, the group saw several rotations of members. Unfortunately, the crew never really made a splash like other Marvel groups. Now, this new group is led by Carl Burbank, AKA Bushwacker. This villain is leading the group on a more villainous path. Now, they will next face off with Garrison’s Punisher.
A New Vigilante
The Night Shift is shown in previews for this week’s Punisher #2. From writer David Pepose and artist Dave Wachter, this new Punisher series follows Joe Garrison’s turn behind the skull and bones moniker. The former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent is a somewhat mirror to Frank Castle and his journey as the Punisher. Garrison has also lost his entire family to violence. This has instilled in him a thirst for vengeance that is rivaled only by Castle. Speaking of, the former Punisher was last seen getting sent to Marvel’s Weirdworld after his time with The Hand.
Now, Garrison is going to find himself in the crosshairs of the Night Shift. This group of supers is being pointed at the new Punisher by the mysterious crime lord known only as The Offer. Of course, they will all find out how difficult it is to take down a Punisher.
Punisher #2 is on sale 12/13.
